In spite of the recession which handcrafts have suffered in all regions, in the old city ceramics, pottery and glazes of diverse inspiration are still made, from the most common to the most innovative: One can find carvings in the Renaissance style and other works in wood, hand-made tapestries and embroidery, soldered models, embossed metal and foundry-made objects etc. Within the province, and aside from that reflected in the most distinguished locations, notable mentions include the pot making in Navafria, the footwear and leather shops of Cantalejo and Maderuelo and the production of traditional wind instruments in Carbonero el Mayor. There is a Guild of Segovian Craftsmen (Jardinillos de San Roque no number) which protects these trades. A National Craft Fair is held during Easter week.
“The copper pots and mirror frames are principal products of provincial handicrafts along with the colourful embroideries in Segovian cross-stitch, the woollens of Prádena, articles of woven straw from Ayllón and leather goods from Maderuelo.” (Quoted from the Junta of Castilla y León)
